Home Maintenance Tips

Gutters and Downspouts:
Gutters and downspouts are very important and are often overlooked by many homeowners. You should inspect them routinely and remove any blockage or consider installing a screening device. Gutters and downspouts are designed to carry water away from the foundation, therefore make sure your splash blocks and downspouts are positioned properly to drain the water a minimum of five feet away from the foundation. Also, make sure that the soil grade is sloping away from the home. Failure to keep gutters free from obstruction, or improper sloping away from the home, may result in water infiltration into your home.

  1. I agree that cleaning your gutters is important if you want to preserve your house's foundation. But you should also be careful when cleaning your gutters, since you'll be using your ladder most of the time. One of the best ways to ensure your safety is to bring someone along with you who will help you balance the ladder.
